I have been playing Euchre for many years and have played in many tournaments.
I have used many of the common methods to determine partners/opponents. I have
tried round-robin, "winners move and switch" and tournament tally cards which had a
fairly decent distribution of opponents. The problem with the tally cards is that
I could only find them for 4, 8 and 12 players. I have tournaments with between
20 and 36 players so I would have to resort to "winners move and switch". I personally
do not like this method because there is not a fair distribution of opponents and
you may play with the same person more than once while other players may never
play with each other.
Since I could not find a decent program to create players and opponents I wrote one.
This program keeps track of the number of times you play with and against another player.
It will verify that each player plays with the same player only once and it will keep
the number of times you play against the same player to a minimum. In fact the program
verifies that every player plays against every other player at least once.
